Ohanaeze Ndigbo: “Matawalle’s Enemies Are Threatened by His Success”

In a strongly worded statement released today, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, has expressed “unwavering support” for Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, amid what they describe as a “campaign of calumny” against him.

The organization claims that recent allegations against Matawalle stem from Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji and what they term “anti-democratic cohorts,” coming just 48 hours after federal troops reportedly neutralized over 40 terrorists in Zamfara and Kebbi states under Matawalle’s guidance.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo categorically dismisses the claims propagated by Hon. Jaji’s camp as not only baseless but as fabrications steeped in falsehood,” the statement reads, suggesting the timing indicates retaliation from “those benefiting from chaos and terrorism” in the region.

The group specifically praised Matawalle as a “detribalised Nigerian patriot” committed to the safety of all Nigerians, particularly highlighting his efforts to protect Igbo communities across Northern Nigeria. According to the statement, these communities have expressed gratitude for the minister’s “tireless efforts in utilizing federal resources to combat the scourge of banditry.”

The organization urged Matawalle to remain focused on his security efforts despite the allegations, which they characterized as “booby traps intended to divert him from the noble pursuit of safeguarding the lives of all Nigerians.”

The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to “remain vigilant against such political machinations” and to support officials working toward national security.

The press release was signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who urged detractors to “cease their disruptive antics and join the ranks of those committed to the greater good.”
