The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has released a statement commending the recent meeting between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, suggesting it could herald a political partnership for the 2027 elections.
In their official communication, the NDYC described both politicians as representing a new direction for Nigerian politics, characterizing them as forward-thinking leaders who prioritize “competence, patriotism, and selfless service” over what they termed “political expediency.”
The statement specifically contrasted the potential Mohammed-Obi collaboration with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom they criticized as embodying outdated political approaches focused on “power acquisition for personal aggrandizement.”
The youth organization highlighted Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State across infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors, while praising Obi’s governance record in Anambra State for fiscal discipline and economic management.
National Coordinator of NDYC, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, called for public support of this “new movement,” particularly urging youth involvement. The statement described the potential partnership as combining administrative experience with economic expertise.
Neither politician has made any formal announcement regarding electoral collaboration for the 2027 presidential race. Political positioning typically begins years ahead of Nigeria’s general elections as parties and potential candidates build alliances and public support.
