The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a strong statement condemning recent protests against the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle. The NDYC described these actions as part of a politically orchestrated campaign to undermine both the Minister and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to NDYC, recent protests held at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja were not genuine expressions of public concern but rather attempts to associate Minister Matawalle with rising insecurity in Zamfara State. NDYC rejected the accusation that Matawalle’s former role as Zamfara governor contributed to the region’s issues with banditry, calling it an unfounded claim spread by political actors to destabilize the current administration.
The NDYC directly accused certain individuals within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of fueling these protests, including Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal. According to the organization, these figures are using divisive tactics to discredit Matawalle, a close ally of President Tinubu, and sow discord within the country for political gain.
The NDYC expressed full support for Minister Matawalle, lauding his dedication to Nigeria’s security and his advocacy for peace and community development. They noted that President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Matawalle to a key national security role demonstrates the Minister’s importance in the government’s efforts to address the nation’s security challenges.
The group urged Nigerian youth, particularly those from the Niger Delta and Northern regions, to question the motives behind these protests and to remain united against partisan efforts that threaten national stability. NDYC encouraged Minister Matawalle to stay focused on his mission to strengthen Nigeria’s security and fight against criminal groups, including recent threats from groups such as Lakurawa.
Reaffirming their support, the NDYC emphasized its readiness to stand with leaders committed to national progress and security. They urged all Nigerians to resist any attempts to disrupt the nation’s peace, unity, and development.
